Children under six should avoid screen time, French medical experts say

French medical professionals have issued a strong recommendation that children under the age of six should avoid exposure to screens, including televisions, tablets, and smartphones. They warn that such exposure can hinder and alter brain development, leading to lasting health and intellectual challenges.

The current guidelines in France advise against any screen exposure for children under three years old and suggest only occasional use for those aged three to six, always under adult supervision. Medical experts emphasize that screens, regardless of their content—even so-called "educational" material—are not suitable for the developing brains of young children.

Health professionals and early childhood educators have observed issues such as delayed language development, attention deficits, memory problems, and increased motor agitation in children regularly exposed to screens before entering elementary school. These findings underscore the importance of limiting screen time to support healthy cognitive and emotional development in young children
