Martin Scorsese Unveils 'Aldeas – A New Story' Featuring Pope Francis's Final Interview


Martin Scorsese has announced a new documentary titled Aldeas – A New Story, which includes what is described as the final in-depth on-camera interview with the late Pope Francis. The film explores the work of Scholas Occurrentes, a non-profit organization founded by Pope Francis in 2013 to promote a "Culture of Encounter" among youth globally. The documentary showcases young people in Indonesia, Gambia, and Italy participating in filmmaking projects, emphasizing creativity as a means of expression, hope, and transformation.The Guardian

Before his death on April 21, Pope Francis praised the Aldeas initiative for addressing fundamental aspects of human life and conflicts. Scorsese highlighted the importance of cross-cultural communication through storytelling and cinema, aligning with the Pope's vision of fostering global dialogue and understanding. The film is co-produced by Scorsese's Sikelia Productions and Aldeas Scholas Film. A release date has not yet been announced.
