THE CHICEST QUARANTINE DIY: EXPANDING FOAM MIRROR

If you’ve been on Instagram, then you’ve probably seen the foam mirror. It’s allllll over the explorer page. It’s a mirror with bordered popcorn-esque cream foam. Your favorite influencer is probably online shopping right now to make it and post it on their feed. The vintage chic home decor community on instagram has taken ahold of it, making it the most desirably-chic at home quarantine craft!

What you need:

  • sika all season foam low pressure expansion (3 big bottles for the thicccest foam🍑)
  • newspaper (or cardboard or cut up a garbage bag or a tarp, – you get the deal, something you may have at home to act as your backdrop to the messy foam)
  • paint & brushes
  • a mirror (preferably with a border so you have a proper outline, or go full on raw mirror, fuck it) If you don't have you can shop one from here:
  • gloves

STEP 1: LAY IT ALLLLLLL OUT.

First things first, make sure you’re in a spacious and well ventilated area. Rooftop, backyard, patio, balcony, etc. Put down your backdrop (I think that’s what it’s called?) on the floor. Make sure your backdrop is at least bigger than your mirror because the foam will get all over the place. Fuck it, make your backdrop the entire room, think Dexter.

JUUUUUUST KIDDING. I DO NOT ENDORSE DEXTER’S MURDEROUS WAY.

STEP 2: TIME TO SPRAY!

Now that your backdrop is set up, don’t forget safety! Put on some gloves; because it will get messy and you will mess up, but hey, that’s life. Place your mirror down, and start spraying! If you want that thiccc🍑fluffy look, it’s definitely going to take a couple of rounds. You will probably use up a bottle or two.

STEP 3: LET IT DRY.

Now, if you like that raw bone color, you’re done! Just wait for that baby to dry up. If your back drop sticks to the mirror, you can just cut it with a knife.

STEP 4: LET’S PAINT! (OPTIONAL)

After your cloud-like mirror has dried up, we can start painting! You can use regular wall paint from Home Depot and hand paint it. Or literally any other paint, whatever you want, I’m not your mother. Let that paint dry out for the rest of the day. By the next day it should be fully dry and ready for all your aesthetically pleasing instagram pictures.

now show instagram how cute you look during a pandemic <3
