Austin Butler Buys Brad Pitt’s Midcentury-Modern “Steel House” in LA for $5.2 Million

Austin Butler has acquired a striking midcentury modern property in Los Angeles, purchasing the home previously owned by Brad Pitt for approximately $5.2 million. 

The residence, known as the Steel House, is located in the Los Feliz neighborhood and was built in 1960. Butler’s acquisition came via an off-market deal.  Pitt had bought the house from oil heiress Aileen Getty in 2023 for $5.5 million and listed it shortly after it was burglarized. 

Designed by architect Neil A. Johnson, the property spans roughly 2,000 square feet with an L-shaped layout.Its aesthetic leans heavily into large glass walls, period details, and seamless integration with its surroundings. Inside, you’ll find terrazzo floors, exposed beams, and a freestanding midcentury fireplace. 

Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the open living spaces with natural light and provide sweeping views of Los Angeles. Outdoors, there’s a curvaceous swimming pool, spa, and landscaped terrace, plus wellness amenities like a cold plunge and sauna tucked into the lush grounds. The primary suite features bold cobalt blue carpet and an ensuite bathroom with a built-in soaking tub, glass-encased shower, and a floating vanity. Cabinetry in mint tones links to custom dressers in the walk-in closet. The kitchen continues the modern vibe with stainless steel countertops, clean lines, and a design that maintains sight lines into the living and dining areas.
