IKEA Introduces Air-to-Water Heat Pumps in Germany to Promote Sustainable Living
IKEA has expanded its commitment to sustainable living by offering air-to-water heat pumps in Germany. This initiative, in collaboration with Swedish photovoltaic company Svea Solar and manufacturer Aira, aims to provide affordable and eco-friendly heating solutions to German households.
The heat pumps utilize propane (R290) as a refrigerant, known for its low environmental impact. Designed to operate efficiently even in temperatures as low as -25°C, the units come in various capacities—6 kW, 8 kW, and 12 kW—with seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) ratings up to 4.7. Customers can choose between models featuring separate indoor and outdoor units or a compact version with integrated hot water storage. Noise levels range from 40 dB(A) to 48 dB(A), ensuring quiet operation.(pv magazine International, pv magazine International)
To make this technology more accessible, IKEA offers a 15% discount to IKEA Family and Business Network members, which complements the 70% rebate provided by German authorities. The package includes installation, maintenance, and repair services, along with a product and performance warranty of up to 15 years, depending on the selected model.(pv magazine International)
This move aligns with IKEA's broader strategy to promote renewable energy solutions, adding to its existing offerings of photovoltaic systems, energy storage units, and electric vehicle charging stations. By integrating these heat pumps into its product lineup, IKEA continues to support consumers in reducing their carbon footprint and embracing sustainable living practices.
