McDonald's Debuts Immersive 'Mood-Engine' Flagship in Hong Kong
McDonald's has unveiled its most innovative restaurant yet at Admiralty Station, Hong Kong, introducing a dynamic "Mood-Engine" design by Landini Associates. This redesign celebrates 50 years of McDonald's in Hong Kong and 70 years since Ray Kroc opened his first U.S. restaurant.
At the heart of the 833-square-meter flagship is "Loco-Motion," a 22-meter-long digital installation that adapts in real-time to customer energy, shifting lighting, color, and animation throughout the day. The installation features animated McDonaldland characters, blending playful branding with sleek modernity.
The restaurant's entrance boasts a reflective double-canopy structure framed by glowing yellow feature walls, paying homage to Ray Kroc's original design. Inside, a high-energy, tech-forward Fast Service Lobby includes self-order kiosks, mobile collection lockers, and expanded sightlines into a functional aluminum kitchen.(Inside Retail US, Archello)
Beyond the lobby, a new McCafé Bar crafted from recycled plastics complements the adjacent timber-lined McCafé Hideaway, a cocoon-like space designed for relaxation. The rear of the restaurant features an Urban Sanctuary with seating for 330 guests, upcycled furniture, planted screens, and warm, diffused lighting to create a tranquil dining experience.(Inside Retail US)
The flexible design allows the McCafé Hideaway and rear dining area to transform into event spaces, accommodating up to 150 guests with modular furnishings and retractable walls. This "Ray-Naissance" reflects McDonald's evolving role in fast-paced urban centers, offering a visually fluid, locally tuned, and emotionally engaging environment.(Inside Retail US)
